Lips

Your poor lips are often the first place that start taking a battering from the chilly winds. Dry, chapped lips often get sore and cracked which, if left untreated, can lead to an infection in the worst cases. Instead take a look at these lovely balms that are guaranteed to soothe and protect the delicate skin of your lips.

We love Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. Not only does it contain the famously soothing properties of cocoa butter to calm and moisturize skin, it also contains a sun protection of spf15 which, even in winter, is still important. To top it off it’s under £5, making it a complete bargain.

Can you make your own lip balm? Absolutely, try this recipe for size.

Face

On to the most exposed area of your body, your face. Your skin takes a daily battering so it’s important to protect it before you face the elements as well as treating it when you come home.

If you’re looking for an organic way of moisturising skin deep down, then apply a so-called dry oil like rosehip directly to your face. This essential oil is said to have anti-ageing properties and is also effective as an all-over moisturiser when added to the bath.

If you’re worried about applying an oil directly to your skin then try this moisturizing cream, a gentle and caring product that is pH balanced and particularly good if you suffer from dry skin conditions.

Finally, consider adding a little SPF protection to your face before you leave the house. Even in the weaker winter sun your face is exposed to the elements that cause ageing so protect your skin with a dry cream that will protect it.

Hands

As a bonus, let’s not forget your hands that are also subject to the extremes in temperature and often suffer as a result. I recommend this amazing hand cream recipe you can do yourself, that uses one cup of Aloe Vera gel, half a cup of grated beeswax, half a cup of sweet almond oil, one teaspoon of vitamin E oil and 15 drops of an essential oil of your choice. Melt the hard ingredients and blend with the soft liquids before separating into jars and placing in the fridge to set.

While winter is hard on the skin, it doesn’t have to be a disaster. Use some of these tips to create your own winter skin survival kit and glow your way through the festive season.
