Hogwarts in the snow – Harry Potter Studio Tour review

I’ve always loved Harry Potter and reading it when I was younger I used to wish that I could go to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Actually I would still love to go and it’s been on my bucket list for a long time to visit the Studio Tour. I was really excited when we were invited to visit Hogwarts in the Snow. For those that don’t know, Hogwarts in the Snow is the special Christmas version of the Harry Potter Studio Tour. There were so many things that I enjoyed about the day, I could go on about it for ages, but have decided to do my favourite 10.

Hogwarts In The Snow

  1. The surprise at the beginning. I can’t give anythging away as I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you!
  2. Entering the Great Hall. I had goosebumps, it’s very surreal going through the big doors and standing on the real flag stone floor. The Christmas decorations made it even more magical, the beautifully decorated trees and the flaming puddings. I could have spent hours in their soaking up all the little details.

  1. The sets, costumes and props. Even James who hasn’t read the books or watched most of the films thought the props and sets were impressive. Some of my favourites were the Gryffindor common room and the Potions Lab.

  1. Fake snow, fire and the wands. The boys loved this, feeling all of the different fake snows and seeing the very realistic looking fire. The boys all had a go at Learning how to use your wand and make it look like you are casting a spell. They have carried on using the skills at home, with lots of”Expelliarmus”

  1. The green screens. Being able to see yourself sitting in the flying car was amazing and we bought the picture of all of us. I also loved putting on a cloak and sitting on the broomstick, watching myself fly over the Castle and past the Hogwarts Express. The boys were pretty excited at doing this too, their little faces as they watched themselves flying is a memory I will cherish.

6. Butterbeer. I’ve always wanted to try it and I actually really liked it. Think of an ice cream float and you are almost there.
7. Diagon Alley. I really wanted to be able to go in to the shops, they looked so realistic and all the little details were amazing.

  1. The Hogwarts Express. You can now see the steam train they used and walk on it, looking in at the compartments. There is something about old steam trains that is impressive. This was a definite favourite for the boys.

9. The model of Hogwarts Castle covered in snow. It’s definitely a wow experience walking in and seeing it all lit up.

  1. That is is a real family friendly day out. We had a 13 month old, 4, 5 and 8 year old boys and they all really enjoyed it. It’s also sparked an interest with Kyle (8) who asked for lots of Harry Potter themed things for Christmas. They both wanted the Every Flavour Beans which kept them entertained for ages, I can confirm they really are every flavour!
