I wanted to create a dark sensory area for Ava as she really enjoys the sensory room they have at a local play centre. It seemed a shame that she only gets to experience it when we go there which isn’t that often. I had a search on Amazon and found some great products which have worked really well and not only that, they won’t break the bank.
Ava visits the tent multiple times each day and takes the sensory toys out of the tent to play with too. You could even re create the sensory experience without the tent in a dark room. I have put one of her cot mobiles in as it projects stars so if you have one that does that already then you won’t need to get one.
I use the toys for other themed sensory play activities which I will also be sharing.
Here are the products that I have used.
My two boys also like the tent and play in it with her or even on their own. My 4 year old particularly likes the doodle pen that comes with the tent. There is a pad inside the tent that you write on with the pen and it lights up with a green glow which he thinks it “so cool Mummy!” he uses it to practise his name. It also comes with stencils which have proved popular.

I have a pop up tent for Tyger in his room with various sensory toys in. It’s supposed to be for him to retreat to when he’s starting to become overloaded (he has ASD) but we haven’t really managed that yet. Hopefully, as he gets older, I’ll be able to explain it to him better.

They love it don’t they?! I created a similar thing for my daughter – http://treasureeverymoment01.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/playroom-creating-sensory-tent-at-home.html 🙂

Oh yes I couldn’t remember who else had done it. Knew I had seen a post somewhere, we bought the tent back in august and I’ve been filling it up with things since then that I have seen. She loves it and so do the boys. Will pop a link for yours on to mine so people can get some more ideas x
This is brilliant! What a genius idea! I’d love to do something like this with Evie. I think there would be lots of ‘wows’. x #picknmix

Great idea! Love the dark sensory areas at the children’s centres, but never really considered doing one at home! #PicknMix
Lovely idea and fantastic that it’s not just for Ava, love the idea of practising writing in the dark. She must be having a ball in there with all those fun toys! 🙂 x
