Little Diggers Summer Events at Wyevale – keeping the kids entertained

Finding things to do with the kids in the summer that doesn’t break the bank can be tricky. Especially with some of the awful weather we have been having. Luckily the other day when it had been raining solidly for days on end and I was rapidly running out of ideas, Wyevale came to the rescue.  We were invited to the Northampton Wyevale Garden Centre to try out one of their Little Diggers summer events. At £2.50 a child this is an affordable activity and was a welcome change of scene. The kids love going to the garden centre. With the little soft play area and restaurant where we had lunch, we stretched our crafty trip out to a few hours.

Little Diggers Summer Events – Potty for Bees

The boys got stuck straight in with the “Potty for Bees’ session. We made Bee faces with card, googgly eyes and pipe cleaners to decorate our plants. I was pleasantly surprised that they actually got a plant and not a planted seed to take away. Even Ava who was a little on the younger side for the activity, enjoyed the sticking and the mud! Kyle at 9 is at the older end for the activities but he enjoyed making the bee stick and learning how to look after the plants from the ladies running the craft. I haven’t managed to kill them yet!

The staff helping out at the craft were really friendly and were great at encouraging and helping the kids. There was only a small group of children taking part at a table in the store so it wasn’t overwhelming. And I didn’t come away more stressed than I started which is unusual for a messy craft with three kids!

After the session we had added on lunch to the activity with the booking, so we headed over to the restaurant. The kids got a hot meal of chicken nuggets, chips and veg with squash. I chose a lasagne from the days menu which was also very good. The Northampton Wyevale has an indoor soft play area which they all played in whilst we were waiting for the food and then after we had finished. It was perfect for a rainy day activity.

We have been to a Little Diggers activity before and were impressed then too. There are still some Little Diggers Summer events happening across local Wyevale stores throughout the holidays. Have a look here. You can also go for breakfast and tea with Buzzy Bee which sounds like fun.

Disclosure:  We were invited to try one of the Little Diggers Summer events in return for an honest review. Thanks to Wyevale for inviting us and helping save my sanity.
