There is nothing worse than turning a blind eye to the clutter building up in your home. Whether you’ve been too busy with work to remember to do anything about it, or you are about to move house and you didn’t notice the clutter until now, it’s time to do something about it. Clutter takes up all the smallest spaces in your home, which is why it’s so good at hiding!
When there is plenty of unwanted clutter around the home, clearing it all out is going to free up your space and give you the chance to be a little more sustainable with the space you have, too. When there is a lot of clutter around, you’ll find that your home looks more disorganized than it actually is – which is a pain when you like to keep a clean and tidy home. You need to be able to declutter your house properly, from metal recycling companies collecting the scrap, to trips to the local tip over and over again. In a lot of cases, your clutter can make you feel nothing but depressed if it’s not sorted properly. So, with this in mind, we’ve got some of the best ways that you can declutter your house!
- What are your home goals? When you choose to reduce your clutter, you need to know what you’re doing it for. Are you moving to a new house and you don’t have much space? Or are you simply just going through the house and cleaning it all down? Either way, you need to know what your goal is for decluttering in the first place! This will help you to stay focused even when you want to down tools and give up for the day.
- Rope in the help. Don’t declutter alone. Doing it alone will only make you stop and start as you get nostalgic for the things you’ve bought and forgotten about. If you can break down the things that you have to do, you’ll be able to assign the work to other family members and make a big difference to how much of the workload that you have on your own back.
- Create a system. You need to have a system for sorting things you want to keep, things you need to recycle, things you need to scrap and so on. If you have a system, you’ll find it helps you to get from room to room without stopping too much. You can get through so much of the work when you know how to do it all without getting lost in the clutter.
- Kill the spare. No, that’s not a Harry Potter reference: if you have duplicate items, bin the twin as you go. You don’t need to take two or three of everything with you when you move, nor do you need to have duplicates in your house as it stands. So, get rid of the things that you don’t need to keep with you.
- Organize the rest. As you go, organize everything and get it put away or packed to move, and you will find that you have much less clutter!
