Sometimes an email will land in my inbox that makes me squeal with excitement. An invite to a Christmas event will definitely have that affect. Any excuse for a little bit of Christmas! Yesterday with my Mum as my plus one we headed off to #AEGTasteofXmas. Arriving at the Cookery to a beautifully Christmas decorated room, the delicious smell of cooking food, Christmas tunes playing in the background and Prosecco. It’s a very good start!
#AEGTasteOfXmas
If I’m honest, I can’t remember the last time I made pastry, or even baked with it. If I ever do, I tend to buy ready made. Being shown how to make it by the lovely staff at The Cookery has maybe persuaded me to try and make my own. It looks fairly easy and tastes great.
A Veggie Wellington isn’t something I would have though of to make as a starter. However I was really impressed with the simplicity of making it. I will definitely recreate this at home with a few tweaks. I am not a fan of mushroom so I didn’t put any in mine instead opting for red pepper, courgette and aubergine roasted and tossed in balsamic vinegar.
We got to eat our starters later on and they were delicious. I think they would be even better with a little melted cheese inside.
I’m now a mince pie making pro and am a bit ashamed to admit I haven’t made any for years. They were so quick and simple that I will definitely be making them with the kids this Christmas. I even had one of them for breakfast this morning, naughty I know!
After dancing around listening to Michael Buble with a glass of Prosecco in hand and making mince pies I was definitely feeling Christmassy!
And then it was time for the best bit, eating! First we had the Veggie Wellington, dished up with a red wine juis.
If you think it couldn’t get any better, it did. We had a full, delicious Christmas dinner with the meat cooked to perfection in the AEG ovens. I’ve told James that I would definitely cook better if we had one of them. Renting means we have a pretty rubbish one currently so I blame my burnt food on that!
The event didn’t finish there as we were then transported in the poshest coach I’ve ever been in (it had leather reclining chairs, tv’s and a kitchen!) to Taste Of London, wondering how on earth we were going to eat any more food.
Taste Of London
I’ve always wanted to go to Taste Of London but have never made it and luckily it didn’t disappoint. Set in the beautiful Tobacco Dock, Taste was full of tempting smells with a lively atmosphere.
First up I headed to The Cheese Bar for Smoked Mozarella Sticks. You could really taste the smoked cheese and paired with the chilli jam it was pretty perfect.
My favourite dish was the exclusive dish by Farang. Aromatic Braised Beef Cheek Curry, pickled ginger, mustard greens & Jasmine rice. I love Thai food and this I think is the most authentic I’ve had since actually being in Thailand.
It was so amazing that I went back later for their Gai Prik. Crispy tempura chicken, burnt chilli dipping sauce, lime & scotch bonnet glaze. I am a big fan of spicy food and wow this was hot, but such a delicious flavour, you could really taste the scotch bonnets.
My mouth is actually watering typing this and thinking about it. I now really NEED to go to the restaurant, yes need! It would make a perfect date night with a trip in to London, hint hint James!
We had a fab evening sampling the amazing food and trying some of the drinks, then headed off home rather tired and rather full!
I’m now planning how to make my Christmas dinner as delicious as that one. I will definitely be using some of Curry’s PC World’s tips.
Disclosure: Thanks to AEG & Curry’s PC World for inviting us to #AEGTasteofXmas ! I wasn’t asked to write about the event but it was so much fun I decided to share it.
