My dream Kitchen – Kitchen Ideas

We currently live in an old Rectory which is lovely. It has loads of space inside and out but there are some areas in which it is seriously lacking. The bathrooms and the kitchen are to put it nicely basic. I’ve managed to brighten up the bathroom with a new shower curtain, bathmat and towels. The kitchen however is much more difficult, think of a student house kitchen, but cleaner and you will be about there. The oven is a standalone, electric hob, with only 3 working as a knob fell off! When I’m in their cooking us a nice dinner on a Saturday night, glass in hand, I like to imagine I am in my dream kitchen. If we had our own house and money was no object I have some amazing

Kitchen ideas, room layout, colours and lighting. My dream kitchens

When I look at houses online it’s the kitchen and bathroom that quite often sell the property to me. The bathroom needs to be bright and modern, with a nice bath, if its a roll top I would be in heaven. The kitchen should be the soul of a home and the space needs to reflect this. I like the layout of the kitchen below with the drinks fridge central along with the oven. I can imagine cooking and chatting with family and friends.

My ideal kitchen would also be a family room, somewhere where the kids could be nearby. Our kitchen at the moment is definitely a separate room and after having more of an open plan house before I really struggle with it. I like to be able to talk to the boys, watch Ava and help them with their reading or homework at the same time as cooking and doing things in the kitchen. It’s also nice in the evenings to be able to talk to James whilst either of us is cooking. The kind of layout of the kitchen room below would be perfect for us.

When it comes to colours in a kitchen, I love the fresh, bright and clean look. Chrome and grey or white, but I would also add in a splash of one colour, maybe a hot pink or red. You could do this with the chairs around a table, a picture on the wall and kitchen utensils.

The lighting in any room of the house is important as it can totally change the feel of a room. For a kitchen I like bright and natural in the daytime, but for evening to create more of an atmosphere It’s nice to be able to change the lighting. I love the different shades of light in the kitchen below. You could have them all or just one depending on the mood you want to create.

  1. I agree a Kitchen does sell a house. You have some beautiful ideas for Kitchens here. We bought a new build house in 2010 and were lucky enough to choose the cupboards, worktops and tiles for ours as they were building it, so we do have a lovely space to mostly our own design. Good luck in finding your dream kitchen

I will just have to carry on dreaming too! My kitchen is nothing like I would like it to be! It is so expensive to refurb a kitchen isn’t it?! I love your choices though and wish you good luck to achieve having your dream one, one day :)#PicknMix

  3. Oooo what beautiful kitchen choices! They are so pulled together & clean cut. I agree that the lighting is so important. I too love a bright kitchen! Thanks so much for hosting #PicknMix x

  4. I think you and I have very similar tastes in a kitchen. We are hoping to move in about 18 months and a big open plan family kitchen is top of my lists. A kitchen with an island and a breakfast bar has been a dream for me since I was much younger – my husband always makes me fun of me for being so obsessed with breakfast bars haha! #PicknMix

  5. What beautiful kitchens. I believe to a good kitchen and bathroom sell a house. My dream kitchen would have an island – that’s my only requirement lol! Thanks for hosting #picknmix xx

Love the pictures We’ve just re-done our kitchen and put on an extension to make a big open plan living space. It was finished on Christmas Eve and the difference it’s made to family life already is huge. Will be doing some blog posts about it soon. #picknmix

Those kitchens are just gorgeous. The blue one is like my dream kitchen, but i doubt the drinks fridge would ever be that full haha! We are just working out finances to see if we can afford to do our kitchen in the next few months. I really hope so! The one we have currently is horrid, grubby, dark, old and freezing cold! #picknmix

  14. Oh wow, these are beautiful. Just imagine the meals we could make in one of these. Dream Dream Dream!!

I do agree that a kitchen is the heart of a home and is the most important thing to me. Love your ideas. We took the plunge last year and finally invested in our dream kitchen which I’m still in love with. We went for light grey and charcoal shaker units with an island and integrated oven – it’s so practical and social, definitely the best investment we’ve ever made. I hope you get around to creating your dream soon x #Picknmix

  16. Some gorgeous choices! The kitchen is my favourite room in our house – I’m a rubbish cook, but it’s a light blue colour and very relaxing!
