I have a little confession to make, I don’t really like green things. You will never find me eating a brussel sprout, enjoying cabbage or even piling my plate high with broccoli. I have every intention of eating them and then I just can’t bring myself to do it. I end up pushing them around my plate. People always assume I’m really healthy and yes I do eat healthily and I am making a current effort to improve my diet, I can actually eat spinach now! But I could still be a lot better. I’m on a health and fitness mission at the moment and so my body really needs all the vitamins, minerals and protein it can get. I have been drinking protein shakes for a while, so it got me wondering what I could add to them to help.
Did you know you can check your nutritional levels and see what you are missing from your diet? I have a 15% off code for the nutritional and vegan tests.
Indigo Herbs offered to send me some of their powders, mixes and products to try just at the right time. With so many healthy, natural products to choose from it took me a while to narrow it down. In the end I went for Super Vital Powder, Kick Ass Organic Vegan Smoothie Mix, Organic Agave Syrup and Organic Raw Cacao Nibs. With the plan to create some healthier smoothies, protein shakes and to have a go at making some protein balls.
If you haven’t heard of them before, Indigo Herbs are based in Glastonbury and their aim is
to inspire and motivate you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Indigo Herbs are on a mission to supply you with the finest natural health products of the best quality, at affordable prices.
I’ve been really impressed, from the simple yet eye catching packaging, to the company ethos of supplying organic and quality assured products. Working only with suppliers who have an awareness of ecology and show a genuine respect for the earth. Indigo Herbs focus on not just the body, but the mind and the soul too and their product range reflects this.
The first creation I made was a protein smoothie, adding in the Super Vital Powder as a quick and easy way to get those key nutrients in.
The Super Vital Powder contains a unique blend of super fruits and vegetables, designed to deliver a powerful nutritional boost. A deep purple colour I have started by adding 1 tsp into my smoothie, protein mix, but you can add up to 4tsps a day.
I also added my usual protein powder, however you could use the Organic Vegan Protein Powder to make your smoothie vegan. One serving of Indigo Herbs protein powder contains 19.7g of protein.
This smoothie is great as a breakfast alternative, or as a snack pre or post workout. It’s very quick and easy to make, with the cold almond milk and frozen berries making it is a refreshing treat on a hot day or after a sweaty workout.
I’m going to have a go at making some protein balls, using some of the products I have been sent, which I will share unless they are a Pinterest fail. I’ve also substituted my one small teaspoon of brown sugar in my morning coffee for a splash of the Organic Raw Agave Syrup and it is working well!
