The Big Sheep Review

We love North Devon, it’s a brilliant place to visit when you have children. The beaches are beautiful but what do you do on the day, or days if you are unlucky, that it isn’t perfect weather? This year I knew I would need a day out up my sleeve and so I was really pleased when The Big Sheep said they would like us to visit and review the experience.

The Big Sheep is one of the region’s most famous family attractions and has received numerous tourism awards. We spent a fun filled day there and were really impressed with the range of activities available suitable for our spread of ages of children 1-8. I’ve made a video of our day out which you can view at the bottom of the post.

More than just a farm, although there are plenty of animals to see, pet and feed. The Big Sheep has plenty of entertainment, rides for all ages and live shows. The top of the boys list were the rides with the roller coaster first, they couldn’t wait. We visited during the School holidays in August and the queues were small, which I couldn’t believe, meaning we could go on the rides more than once. The Twister ride was fun, I know as I had a go too and Ava enjoyed the carousel and train ride.

The other outdoor attractions were a hit with the trampolines, football, go karts and bouncing pillows to name a few. However a lot of the attractions were under cover meaning you could still enjoy them if it did decide to rain. We spent some time in the huge indoor play area, again great for all ages with toddler area and ‘death slide’ for the boys, although I think the toddler would have tried it if we had let her.

We watched the sheep show which was rather funny and the popular sheep racing. There were other shows that we just didn’t have the time to do. Kyle really wanted to have a go on the Battlefield, visitors to the Big Sheep get the first 10 minutes free, and they would have loved to visit the next door Ultimate Adventure Centre for the Climbing wall and Mountain boarding (available at a small fee to The Big Sheep visitors).

We finished the day with a water fight and I was impressed that they each had 5 balloons to fill for free included in the entry price, you could buy more if you wanted but I was expecting to have to pay for the initial ones. It was a lot of fun even watching from a distance!

Priced at £13.95 per adult and children over 3ft tall, £6 for children under 3ft and free for babies under one, it isn’t the cheapest day out. However, if you plan ahead, booking on line you can get some good deals, there is currently 20% off normal prices.

Even if you do pay full price though, I think it is worth the money. We were there most of the day and ran out of time to do everything, and despite it being in the middle of the summer holidays, the park never felt overly busy. I would definitely recommend it for a family day out if you are in the area, we would love to go back.

Disclosure: We were given free entry in return for an honest review.
