How To Make Upcycled Tin Can Planters
These cute upcycled tin can planters recycle something you would normally discard and saves you having to buy new ones. They make for great little outdoor planters for the front porch or keep them inside and brighten up the kitchen window! With endless possibilities a little creativity you can make them match any decor.
You Will Need:
- Tin cans (make sure they have been well washed and dried)
- Spray paint (outdoor water and rust resistant spray paint preferred for longevity of these planters)
- Succulents or other small plants
- Soil
- Rocks
- Jute string
- Bositk Fix n Flash
How To Make Your Upcycled Tin Can Planters
- First start by prepping the can- make sure that it is free of any metal shards left over from opening it. Then wash it well removing any labels and dry it before starting.
- Next spray the cans. Spray the outside of the can first with an evenly applied coat. Let it dry thoroughly (check how many minutes your spray recommends) before flipping to paint the inside and let it dry again. You don’t need to spray the entire inside, just the top that will show in the interior of the planter.
- Once the tins are dry you can decorate how you want. I’ve opted for Jute which I wrapped around and fixed in pace using Bostik Fix n Flash (available in HobbyCraft). You could also then tie on a brown paper tag and give as a lovely gift.
- Fill the tin with rocks at the bottom for drainage. Top with soil and plant the plants in each planter. Dust off the sides of the planters (from the excess dirt of planting) and find the perfect place for your little plant.
These little up cycled tin can planters look great lined up in a row, or use them sporadically around the house.
