24hrs in Nice child free with a proposal

24hrs in Nice child free

As a parent I love my children but I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who dreams of alone time? Maybe even more importantly, quality time for us as a couple. Well last weekend my dream came true when we spent 24hrs in Nice child free. It was the first time leaving Ava for the night. After over two years of reflux, allergies and a non sleeper it was much needed.

On Saturday I was whisked off the Heathrow, at a rather too early time, for a surprise trip away. I knew we were going somewhere for a night but I had no idea where. It did make packing a little difficult. I don’t know about you but I always struggle to travel light, always! I knew roughly the temperature it would be but not the style of the place. Once we arrived at the departure gate and I saw we were going to Nice I relaxed a little. Flying club with British Airways we had already visited their lounge and had a champagne breakfast on the flight. It would be rude not to wouldn’t it?

We stayed at the Mercure Nice hotel.  James requested a corner room which had stunning views out the the sea as soon as you walked through the door. The double windows stopped any road noise and there was a small balcony to admire the view. It really was beautiful! The room had little extra touches like and espresso machine, tv, kettle and fridge. The bathroom was huge, had a hairdryer, robes and slippers. I was very impressed.

We wondered around for a while exploring the old parts of the town. Venturing into some of the many shops before stopping for coffee by the market. Usually we are chasing after and keeping a toddler entertained whilst having a coffee, so it was a novelty to actually be able to chat to each other.

We grabbed lunch and ate it on the pebbly beach listening to the crash of the waves before heading up the hill to find the waterfall. If you ever go to Nice it’s so peaceful up there and the view is worth the climb. We strolled over the top of the hill to have a peak at the harbour on the other side of the bay where there were some very expensive looking yachts moored.

Our room was the perfect base to get ready, plenty of space, chairs to sit on and a large bathroom. It was pretty exciting to be able to dress up, put some heels and a nice dress on. I don’t get out much these days. We decided on dinner at La Pizza Cresci after looking around at the menus for a while. I had the most delicious gnocchi with tomato, bacon and onion and James had an equally good pepperoni pizza which we topped off with a bottle of red.

After dinner James suggested we go to the beach where we stood looking at the stars. It was a bit cold by this point and he was shivering so I suggested we go back to the room. If you haven’t seen on here or social media, he then gets down on one knee and proposes. I need to write a whole post on it’s own about this but I couldn’t leave it out of our special trip to Nice.

We celebrated with champagne in the room where I kept bursting into tears with happiness and disbelief. The next morning we went for breakfast at an organic cafe, Love Bio. They brought us some great coffee and they even had homemade vegan croissants. I went for a pan au chocolat though. Then before we knew it, it was time to pack up and head off to the airport.

Leaving the hotel I mentioned to James how every time we had passed through reception, the staff had greeted us with a smile, completing our amazing stay. If we went back to Nice we would definitely stay there again, I couldn’t fault it.

Nice is such a lovely place, full of shopping, culture, cafes, the beach and nature it really has something for everyone. With such a short flight from London it really is doable to spend 24hrs in Nice child free. You can watch a video of everything we got up too.

No disclosure needed. I wasn’t asked to write this post or mention any of the places above.
