Improve your garden now – and have all summer to enjoy it

Sprucing up your garden and maximising use of its space will always add value to a home, while also improving your quality of life generally. And if you start getting busy in your outdoor space about now, i.e. in the spring, you’ll have the whole summer ahead in which to enjoy the fruits of your labours.

So it’s a good time to keep on top of jobs like weeding and planting, and to reassess the lawn. Although if you can let even a small area of grass grow wild, you can attract a number of native wildlife species to your garden.

If you’re looking to give your space a significant revamp, consider a garden studio. These structures are freestanding, fully insulated and provide extra living space. You can use them for different purposes, whether you want an office, hobby room or even somewhere to put up guests.

Choose bespoke garden studios and look forward to a customised design that increases the potential asking price of your home and makes the best use of space. You’ll end up with a structure that looks amazing as well as being fully functional. Create your own peaceful retreat away from the main house, however you choose to use it.

At the same time, garden furniture can be a real gamechanger, and means you can spend longer outside, entertaining or just relaxing, alone or with the family. And you could make yours distinctive so that it creates a unique focal point, whether you’re selling or not.

An outdoor Lutyens bench, for example, is space-efficient, seats up to four people and is gorgeous-looking as well as comfortable to sit on. Created by London-based English architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, the bench’s classic, ornate design incorporates scrolled armrests, with a latticed and arched backrest. It’s all about the carves!

These pieces are typically fashioned from the sustainable tropical hardwood teak, making Lutyens benches highly durable – you can leave them outside all year round in all weathers. The beautiful golden colour, which turns to an elegant silvery-grey patina over time, makes teak a pleasure to look at. And, unlike some other woods, you don’t have to constantly oil or paint teak; very little maintenance is required.

When it comes to the trees in your garden, spring is a good time to think about having one removed if that’s what you need to do. And there are a number of reasons why this may be necessary, from safety concerns to possible damage to your property if there’s a chance it could fall, perhaps because it’s diseased, infested with pests or otherwise damaged. You’ll also need to get rid of any tree which poses a potential fire risk.

Alternatively, you may want to improve the view across your garden, enhance the landscaping, have less shade or make way to build something new.

Whatever the reason and whether you need tree removal Winchester or anywhere else, this is definitely a job for the professionals and unless you’re very sure you know what you’re doing, not something you should attempt yourself.

Any of the above ideas could give your garden the perfect spring-time refresh, improving it and enhancing your property’s value. And, remember, you’ll then have all summer to enjoy these upgrades.
