Sleep deprivation

Some of the many crazy/embarrassing/forgetful/bad-mummy things I have done through sleep deprivation!

image

Put shower gel in my hair, after I have washed it and only realised by the smell.

Tried to put the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cereal cupboard.

Walked to school/opened the door with, delete as appropriate: bra straps undone/ top still pulled up/ boob on show.

Forgotten my kids names in mid conversation with other adults.

Burst into tears when someone asks if I am ok, or says you’re looking tired!

Resisted the massive urge to punch/give a sarky comment back to the well-meaning mums who ask if she is good? No she’s out partying all night!

Put blusher all over my face instead of bronzer.

Walked to school/gone out for the day with mascara on only one eye.

Stood waiting for my coffee when I haven’t pushed the button!

Used dry shampoo a little too much. White hair anyone?

Realised an hour away from home  that we have gone out for the day without a sling or the pram.

Mid change, realised that I haven’t put the wipes back in the changing bag before leaving the house.

Not been able to sleep at night despite sleep deprivation, as my pillow is the place I suddenly remember all the things I have forgotten to do.

Forgotten to pack a change of clothes and baby is sick, or has a poonami.

Walked to the shop to get milk. Come back from the shop with biscuits, chocolate and no milk.

Forgotten what I am talking about half way through a sentence.

Cried like a toddler, for no other reason than being tired.

Got back from the school run and seen the football kit/lunch on the side. Had to go back out to drop it off.

Left the washing in the machine and had to rewash, not once but twice from forgetting to take it out.

Not known what day, month, year it is.

Read a text/message/tweet and replied to it, only in my head!

Put on odd socks and not even cared.

Please tell me I’m not the only one?

Disclaimer: I’m sure there are many, many more things, but I’m too tired to remember.

This made me chuckle. It all sounds so familiar x

Eeek I’ve done a lot of these in the last few months without sleep deprivation!! Hmm perhaps instead of baby brain I have ‘bloggers’ brain lol! So busy writing blog posts in my head I keep forgetting ridiculous things and talking to myself in public *cringes* x Fab post 🙂

My favourite one that I did quite a lot in the first year of being a parent was putting orange juice on my cereal! Forgetting to put the kettle on, forgetting wet wipes, forgetting what I’m talking about, forgetting a change of clothes…yeah, I still do these 🙂 #MaternityMondays

Haha, yes so many of these, and the amount of times a day I boil the kettle but forget to make a brew

hugs! And no you are definitely not the only one, i do so many of these too, plus many more but like you am too tired to remember them! What is it about suddenly remembering everything in bed and wasting your one opportunity to get some shuteye?? So frustrating! Thanks for linking with #MaternityMondays

Another Bun says:

Haha, yes to so many of these! Especially to replying to things only in your head – not good!

Kim Carberry says:

hehehe! That did make me chuckle…..I think I have done quite a few of those over the years. lol x

Amy says:

This made me chuckle as I can relate to so many of them!

Julie S. says:

Such an honest and true list! Momnesia from sleep deprivation is a real thing!

I have definitely done some of these over the years. I have six kids so feel constantly sleep deprived x #mummymonday

Alex says:

Hilarious! Don’t worry you’re not alone! It’s been a while since I was really sleep deprived (Lamb is almost 2) so I’m a bit immune to broken sleep. However I will be sure to document the crazy things I do next time I have a baby! We have to see the funny side, right? 😉 Alex xx #mummymonday

This is hilarious!

HonestMum says:

Yes to everything and more, sleep deprivation sucks big time. Thanks for linking up x

teacuptoria says:

hahaha I LOVE this…god bless you. As you know, it does get better but it just takes time. Hang on in there! xxx

Kohl Mama says:

bahahaha I was nodding all the way through! Yes I always answer the door to the poor (or lucky?!?) postman without doing my bra up. I’ve done the shower gel thing. I’m ALWAYS crying just because I’m tired and no other reason! Thanks for making me laugh! Xx

I can put my name down to most of these, hehe, I went to my brothers wedding with nail varnish on one hand only… it wasnt even a neutral shade and I didn’t realise until we are sat there waiting for the bride to walk up the aisle. I am not sure it was tiredness, baby brain or both….

Tanita says:

What a great post I certainly have experienced many of these and more. Oh the joys of sleep deprivation! Tanita x

Mumma McD says:

Oh love, it’s torture isn’t it?? I’ve done most of these – also left the groceries in the boot after shopping & left them there overnight. Opened the car the next day to be greeted with the overwhelming smell of rotten chicken 🙁 OMG the thought still makes me gag!!

#Thelist

Yes yes and yes to all and probably some more besides! Thanks for linking up to #TheList xx

Jenny says:

Brilliant list for us all as we all can so relate. I have done so many of these myself and I continue to do it long after I have had sleep and my babies are toddlers. lol Where is my excuse now? Baby brain still possibly. Lovely post. Thank you ever so much for linking up to Share With Me. #sharewithme

Alice Young says:

Argh sleep deprivation is really the worst. It makes us do crazy crazy things. I’m more of an angry tired person “are you okay?” “DO I LOOK OK!!!” haha. Thankfully I’ve been getting plenty of sleep at the moment. Thanks so much for linking up #mummymonday co-host xx

Haha, great post and I’m guilty of some of this myself (particularly the bra strap on show…) 🙂

Hell yeah… I’m there with these. The baby has had me up all night and the toddler has chicken pox. I can barely spell my own name yet today I decided to launch my own blog. Now THAT is irrational thinking!

Lol,I think I’ve done most of these too!The poor postman copped a look on many an occasion I was terrible for leaving 1 hanging out lol!I’ve also put my purse in the freezer x #picknmix

Brilliant, this is me! Can relate to almost all of it!

Haha! We have all been there that’s for sure! Sleep deprivation is definitely challenging! This post made me chuckle. Keep smiling!! #PicknMix

Sarah Norris says:

Oh dear Lord !!! Sleep deprivation ! there isn’t a parent alive who wouldn’t read that list with a slightly anguished, sympathetic smile on their face (or a rictus of terror lol)
I have been a maternity nurse for 23 years….that is 23 years of newborn nights so I know a bit about sleep deprivation !!!
As I am being paid I have to at least appear to be slightly more functional than the parents which I usually manage by copious list making, and prodded on by years worth of memories of that time I did forget the wipes/change of clothes/emergency bottle etc.
The worst trick my brain plays on me is hiding words.
I know what I want to say, but the odd word just totally vanishes from my version of the universe and I can’t finish my sentence. I just laugh and ask people to make some suggestions until I find a word that fits lol Funny, but embarrassing in more formal situations. Luckily most people understand the explanation of Babybrain !,

Silly Mummy says:

Done some of these! Terrible for too much dry shampoo – always have white hair when I use it! #PicknMix

Oh yes! I am definitely part of the ‘Sleep Deprivation’ club! I once found fabric condition in the fridge! My favourite is getting to the top of the stairs only to forget what I went upstairs for! Good exercise I suppose?
Havent forgotten the baby yet though – lucky that! 🙂 #PicknMix

Just last week I gave my daughter a sippy cup full of coffee creamer. I think she liked it

Alice says:

So true! I am constantly replying to texts in my head but not in real life… And one eye mascara’d is quite good going – I often forget both of them, which is quite a weird look when you have a full face of make up on and quite fair eyelashes…
x Alice

MummyandMonkeys says:

Oh I do the same, looked in the mirror the other week and realised I had been walking about with eyeliner and no mascarra. My eyelashes are also fair x

I’ve done many of these lol!! Not always sleep deprived even, just being a dozy cow. Am interested to know did you go out with a face full of blusher. That would make it even funnier. #picknmix

MummyandMonkeys says:

Luckily no I didn’t haha! That would have been interesting if I had done that. I’ve done so many more crazy things since writing this x

I have done many of these. I have also walked off with the car door open (it was the one on the opposite side to me just to be fair) and gone off to a kids party leaving it in a public car park. I only noticed when I got back but it was still there, thank goodness. #picknmix

MummyandMonkeys says:

We have done this too haha! Couldn’t believe it when we got back to the car x

Becster says:

Oh sleep deprivation has hit our household! Rewashing the clothes is my current favourite! And going to the shops and not getting what I went ther for!

MummyandMonkeys says:

It’s so tough isn’t it. I’m still in it unfortunately and still doing the same things. I’m constantly forgetting where I have put stuff at the moment. x

Su says:

Lol! Such funny post! & poonami? I mean POOnami?! lol! That’s the first. I think I will use it a lot now. #PicknMix

Julie S says:

Yep, lots of truth there. I’ve tried to brush my teeth with hand soap before. Ah the life of a sleep deprived mama.

MummyandMonkeys says:

Yuck, bet that was nice! I’ve done so many more things since I wrote this post x
