Pulp Wine – A wine lovers subscription box

I love subscription boxes, the little surprises you get in the post every month. So the Pulp wine subscription box sounded pretty perfect if I’m honest. I can imagine the excitement the day my wine subscription box and beauty box arrive together. It might be messy!

I started drinking wine when I was at University, mainly because you can buy a cheap bottle and share it with friends. Rose wine was the go to as it is sweet and fairly nice on a summers evening in a pub garden. I then ventured into white wine territory with my current favourite being a Sauvignon Blanc. More recently James has somehow managed to get me drinking red, something I never thought I would like. With a  Malbec being the usual red of choice.

I don’t really know a lot about wine, just what I do and don’t like. I’ve never been wine tasting and tend to stick to a safe bet. Who wants to buy a whole bottle when you don’t know if you will like it? And the rare occasion I actually get to go out and drink wine, you can bet I’m ordering one of my favourites.

So what is Pulp?

Once a month, subscribers will receive a box with four half bottles of wine in. Two reds and two whites.

The fun part, the wine tasting and lesson ……

Logging into your account online, chose whether you are trying the red or white and compare the two. The lesson talks you through the colours, aromas and taste in simple non wine buff terms. The idea being that you discover and try new wines, giving you the confidence to add some different ones to your go to selection. No more browsing the wine isle hoping you see a familiar name, or taking home a disappointing bottle.

Once you have tasted each wine you give it a rating using a smiley face scale. You can then learn more about the wines including foods to pair them with and the region they come from.

What was in our box?

The reds; a Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 and a Syrah 2014. I was a little unsure of trying the reds. As I said above I’m still fairly new to red wine drinking. However both the Syrah and the Cabernet Sauvignon surprised me. It’s hard to choose a favourite, but if I had to it would be the Syrah. Not a wine I would probably have tried if it hadn’t been for the Pulp box.

The whites; my old favourite Sauvignon Blanc 2015 and a Pinot Grigio 2015. We didn’t try both the reds and whites in one evening as it was a School night, so we still have the whites to try. I will make sure I come back and update with how we got on.

The Pulp subscription box costs £35 per month.

This includes delivery and wine lessons.

You can also buy one-off boxes for £39. I think they would make a lovely gift or treat.
